A 52-year-old man hit by a truck last week in Hampden has died, Baltimore police confirmed today.
Michael Larry Hughes Jr., of the 4200 block of Falls Road, was traveling north on Falls on June 17, when he was hit by a Chevy Silverado pulling a trailer, police said.
The driver of the Silverado remained on the scene after the collision, which police say took place at 4:13 p.m. in the 3600 block of Falls Road, near the 36th Street intersection.
Hughes was taken to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma where he was initially listed in critical condition. He died on June 24th – one week after the collision.
Police have not released a detailed narrative of the incident and said no charges have been filed at this point against the driver of the truck.
“We will work with the State’s Attorney’s Office to determine if any charges will be filed,” Detective Jeremy Silbert said.
“Our hearts go out to the family and friends of Mickey Hughes,” Liz Cornish, executive director of the advocacy group Bikemore, said in a statement to The Brew.
“We are still waiting to learn more details from police about this crash, but nearly all fatal crashes involving someone walking or biking and someone driving a car are preventable,” Cornish said.
“Every death on our streets reinforces the need for planning that puts the safety of vulnerable road users first.”
