Boil Water Advisory issued for Hunt Valley and other parts of northern Baltimore County
Precautionary measure follows Monday’s water main break on York Road
A Boil Water Advisory has been issued for the Hunt Valley, Cockeysville, Sparks and Broadmead areas of northern Baltimore County.
The action follows a 20-inch water main break Monday evening at 13816 York Road. Repairs to the damaged pipe are ongoing.
The advisory was issued last night at 10:47 p.m. “in an abundance of caution” because of a loss of water pressure in the area.
2/17/23 UPDATE: The advisory was lifted today following the reopening of the damaged pipe.
“No known E. coli or other bacteria contamination has been detected,” the Baltimore City Department of Public Works, which operates the county’s water services, reported.
The Sparks pumping station has lost pressure and its water tank capacity is depleted, DPW reported.
Loss of water pressure can increase the risk of drinking water contamination.
Until further notice, tap water should be brought to a full boil for at least one minute before use in homes and businesses.
The advisory directly impacts about 1,900 customers north of Shawan Road along the York Road corridor. Some are experiencing low water pressure, while others currently have no water, the DPW advisory said.
Beginning at noon today, bottled water will be distributed to impacted residents at USA Lacrosse at 2 Loveton Circle in Sparks.
DPW has an interactive map for residents who want to see if they are in the advisory area.
